Say Hello to New Features of DraftSight 2025
New DraftSight New feature!
The wait is over, DraftSight 2025 has officially arrived, bringing exciting new features that make drafting faster, smarter and better connected to the world of 3D design. If you joined us at IME Innovation Day or followed our online seminars, you’ll already have had a glimpse of what’s to come.
Let’s walk you though the enhancements in DraftSight 2025.
Step File Import is coming!
The highlight of DraftSight 2025 is without doubt the long-awaited STEP file import capability. This enhancement serves as a bridge between 3D designers and 2D drafters or fabricators, enabling soother data transfer and reducing the need to manual redrawing.
Historically, if you wanted to bring 3D models into DraftSight, you’d rely on DWG or IGES files. The problem? These formats often compromise accuracy or miss finer design details. With STEP file import, DraftSight 2025 ensures precise geometrty transfer, giving drafter confidence that what they see matches the original design.

DraftSight STEP import finally introduced in DraftSight 2025.
Why STEP Import is a Big Deal
For engineers and designers, working with 3D CAD software speeds up product development, with easy model changes and real-time checks.
For drafters and fabricators, 2D drawings are still essential but investing in premium 3D software can be costly, especially for smaller companies. Many rely on DraftSight for quick edits, checks and drawing preparation.
With the new STEP import feature, designers can simply export their models as STEP files and drafters can be open them directly in DraftSight, no need to redraw from scratch. It’s an efficient handover process that saves time, reduce errors and enhances collaboration across teams. Import STEP file, can import several components in a complete assembly. After importing into DraftsSight, you can clearly see the separations of part clearly in DraftSight.
After end users import the STEP file, they can only recreate the 2D view or isometric view but we unable to change or edit the part geometry for the STEP file. They only can-do checking, measuring and labelling in the Drafting software.
The quick 2D drawing generation from the STEP import feature, allow users easily to change the drawing view, whether in front view, side view or isometric view. The view option in the STEP feature allows users to have different views form the model. Using the 4-view mode in DraftSight, can simultaneously view the STEP model into different configuration views with the isometric view.
With this feature, the fabricator and drafter can easily read the files form the other 3D CAD user and create their own drawing view without hassle.

Designer have to redo or recreate 2D technical drawing for fabrication.

Drafter or fabrocator might not have budget to acquire high end 3D CAD software.

The new DraftSight allow users to select which view to see for the imported STEP file.

Similar with SOLIDWORKS, the DraftSight also come with basic detail display style for the 3D model.

View tile options allow users to have different view for the STEP model.

4 view tile options allow users to generate general 3 view drawings in the model mode.

Can create standard 3 view drawing at the drawing sheet.
