Northern Corridor Economic Region (NCER)

The Northern Corridor Economic Region (NCER) is a region in Malaysia comprising Perlis, Kedah, Pulau Pinang, and Perak, established as part of the Ninth Malaysia Plan to promote balanced economic development. NCER aims to ensure wealth distribution in Malaysia and supports the country’s goal of becoming a high-income developed nation. The Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA) is responsible for implementing initiatives to drive economic growth and transformation in the region.

NCER Technology Innovation Center (NTIC)

The “Tech Valley” initiative within the Northern Corridor Economic Region (NCER) integrates the New Technology Industry Corporation (NTIC) program to nurture talent and industry ecosystems. NTIC serves as a collaborative platform for multinational corporations (MNCs), local corporations (LLCs), small and medium enterprises (SMEs), technocrats, young entrepreneurs, and startups to participate in impactful technology innovation endeavors. Through the “Quadruple Helix” innovation model involving government, society, academia, and business, the primary aim of NTIC is to promote innovative and sustainable economic development.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  • Local Micro, SME and Large Local Companies in NCER.
  • Product / process development activities to move up value chain and must be performed by NTIC’s approved CoE Provider.

PROJECT CRITERIA

  • The project must have strategic impact to the ecosystem development and value chain in NCER.
  • The project must be in accordance with the NTIC framework.
  • The project must have a business model for long term self-sustainability.

FUNDING

  • Matching grant, 50:50 ratio, capped at RM 100,000 per project.
  • Maximum of one project to develop per year / company and to allow the usage of multiple CoE Providers. Funding is for the services and consultancy, including usage of equipment, testing, reliability, failure analysis and R&D&D&C activities provided by NTIC’s approved CoE Provider.
  • To ensure no double dipping from other agencies (Cradle, MIDA, MRANTI etc) through due diligence during claim submission.

REIMBURSEMENT METHOD

  • Reimbursement based on invoice, within three months after project completion.
  • Project status verification by appointed industry CoE for full disbursement upon completion of the service usage.

AGREEMENT

  • Project duration: Maximum of 12 months from the date of approval.
  • Agreement period: Maximum of 15 months from the date of approval
