Happy New Year! A great year has passed, another great year awaits. IME is thankful for your ongoing support that enables us keep doing what we love – To address the needs and difficulties faced by local design and manufacturing industry.

This past year has been an exciting one for us. From organizing meaningful customer engagement activities to collaborating with educators on talent development initiatives, it truly inspired us to double our effort in solving more industry’s challenges and meeting business needs.

Now, let’s take a look back on some of IME most celebrated moments over the year 2014.

1)    Customer Technology Day

IME had hosted Customer Technology Day at customer workplace on-demand basis, with the purpose to introduce the latest technologies and applications that are highly relevant to customer’s business. The event was well attended by engineers in design and manufacturing, as well as members from management.

Customers were given an overview of global trends in CADCAM technology and how IME’s vast solution portfolio responds to changing customer requirements. The particular interest were topics on SOLIDWORKS Inspection, SOLIDWORKS Flow Simulation, inspection hardware and 3D printing technology.

The Customer Technology Day ultimately demonstrated once again IME’s commitment to provide customers the best-in-class design and manufacturing solutions.

2)    Student Holiday Program

The Student Holiday Program was a collaboration effort between Melaka Foundry & Engineering Industries Associations (MFEIA) and IME with the objective of giving primary and secondary school students to learn to use CADCAM software during school holiday. The five-day CADCAM program exposes students to mechanical design at a much early stage, to cultivate and inspire their interest in engineering.

More than 40 students had participated in this holiday program and had demonstrated their creativity in product design.

Here are some stunning 3D designs created by primary and secondary school students using SOLIDWORKS,

We’ve picked the top 5 and printed out their design,

3)    SOLIDWORKS Innovation Day 2015

SOLIDWORKS Innovation Day is an annual event for IME to bring together the local SOLIDWORKS community to share how innovation in work practices can help to achieve breakthrough performance.

SOLIDWORKS Innovation Day was held on October 2014 and IME had introduced 3 distinct tracks to help customers navigate the sessions for what they are looking for. Industry trend, case studies, industry best practices, What’s New in SolidWorks 2015… everything that can help customer’s success through innovation.

We are excited to have more than 150 CEO/Business Owners, 600 Engineers and IT Personnel celebrated this year’s SOLIDWORKS Innovation Day 2015! We definitely hope to expand our local SOLIDWORKS community next year, so more innovation enthusiast can join the discussion to take local design and manufacturing industry to next level.

4)    FOM ERA Vocational Academy

FOM ERA Vocational Academy (FOM ERA) is a non-profit technical and vocational training center founded in 2014 by Federation of Malaysian Foundry and Engineering Industries Associations (FOMFEIA) and New Era College. FOM ERA aims to provide the Product Design and Development related courses to build youngsters to become the skilled-workers with hands-on experiences.

IME is pleased to collaboration with FOM ERA to develop the suitable training courses to the students that are very practical and useful in fulfilling the manufacturers’ needs and requirements.

IME together with FOM ERA is committed to establishing a high quality vocational academy that able to address the challenge in skilled workers shortage at the production floor faced by the local manufacturing industries.

5)    IME Design Challenge 2014

The 5th IME Design Competition Finals was held at Technology Park Malaysia (TPM) on 18th December 2014. This year, we are honored to have Dassault Systemes, SOLIDWORKS, TPM, The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), Dell and industry leaders to support this meaningful event.

The competition design’s theme is “Product Life Cycle Challenge 2014 – Designing a Sustainable Future” where students are required to tackle the problem of product sustainability. Our goal is to cultivate the importance of designing for sustainability from the beginning of a design lifecycle in young innovators’ mindset.

We are pleased to announce that there are 58 groups of young innovators from 16 Universities participating for this year’s competition. Through this competition, engineer-to-be is able to understand better on the entire product lifecycle development process, and to put more thorough considerations in their design to create products that are practical, innovative and environmental sustainable.

Much has been achieved, but there is still a lot on our agenda. We are excited for this new year of opportunities and growth that awaits us. Want to know what we have in our pockets? Check out our Website or Facebook regularly.
