From 8 to 20 October 2026, IME SOLIDWORKS Innovation Day 2027 (SWID27 × IME) brought its SOLIDWORKS SUPERCHARGED programme to Selangor, Penang, Johor and Sarawak. The 20th edition of IME Innovation Day connected engineering AI and SOLIDWORKS 2027 with discussions on manufacturing workflows and industry skills.

Across its four editions, the series welcomed over 1,400 attendees, combining industry perspectives, technical sessions, technology showcases and design challenges.

Engineering AI and human judgement

In Selangor, Manish Kumar, CEO of SOLIDWORKS and R&D Vice President at Dassault Systèmes, shared perspectives on AI, cloud technologies and product development. The panel discussion examined how Industrial AI could preserve engineering expertise and strengthen Malaysian manufacturing while keeping human judgement central.

A practical focus was engineering capacity: reducing repetitive work so engineers can spend more time on design and problem-solving, while retaining the knowledge built through experience. The discussion also considered the accuracy required when applying AI to engineering decisions.

Design and manufacturing across the regions

Penang explored how Malaysia’s industrial knowledge could become a competitive advantage. Low Hock Chuan of Dassault Systèmes shared the SOLIDWORKS perspective on AI, cloud technologies and product development, while dedicated Design and Manufacturing tracks covered AI-driven design, simulation, workflow management and maximising CNC throughput.

Johor connected engineering intelligence with industry readiness at the University of Southampton Malaysia. Alongside SOLIDWORKS 2027, sessions explored shop floor digitisation, system integration, reducing CNC bottlenecks and connected workflows from desktop to cloud.

Sarawak concluded the series at Makeramai Makerspace in Kuching, with perspectives from Dassault Systèmes, Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) and Swinburne University. Discussions covered an AI-powered economy, academia–industry connections and digital and sustainable growth. Technical sessions explored SOLIDWORKS 2027, smarter design with AI and creating business value through 3D printing.

Building skills and industry exposure

In Selangor, IME signed a Letter of Intent with TVETMARA Balik Pulau to explore cooperation in preparing students for industry. The proposed areas include Certified SOLIDWORKS Associate (CSWA) preparation, internships with IME and affiliated companies, technical sharing, and an Industrialmanship Programme to give students greater industry exposure.

Penang also recognised technical achievement through a Certified SOLIDWORKS Professional (CSWP) certificate presentation. Together, these activities brought skills development and industry connections into the wider technology programme.

Putting design skills to the test

Model Mania and DraftSight Mania brought friendly competition to Selangor, Penang and Johor, challenging participants to demonstrate their design skills and speed. Technical spotlights also gave attendees a closer look at SOLIDWORKS AI, Simulation and DraftSight, alongside machining, robotics and additive manufacturing showcases.
