SOLIDWORKS Package
1. SOLIDWORKS Standard
SOLIDWORKS Standard unlocks the benefit of powerful 3D design and manufacturing solution.
Along with part, assembly, and 2D drawing functionality, specialized tools are included for sheet metal, weldments, surfacing, molds, product configuration, design analysis, DFM, and CAM. SOLIDWORKS CAM Standard is included with an active subscription.
2. SOLIDWORKS Professional
SOLIDWORKS Professional builds on the capabilities of SOLIDWORKS Standard with ECAD/MCAD collaboration, automated cost estimation, collaboration capabilities, design and drawing checking, a sophisticated components and parts library, and advanced photorealistic rendering.
3. SOLIDWORKS Premium
SOLIDWORKS Premium builds on SOLIDWORKS Professional by adding structural and motion analysis capabilities, advanced surface flattening, reverse engineering, and electrical cable and pipe routing functionality.
After you have selected the package that can fulfil your product design and development requirements, you will need to know which license type suits you the most.
SOLIDWORKS did offer license option for Term license and Perpetual license.
Term License
With Term Licensing, users are only able to use the software for a predefined and renewable period of time.
SOLIDWORKS Term Licensing Products provide customers with a flexible and scalable solution with easier budgeting and lower upfront cost compare to traditional perpetual licensing model.
Perpetual License
A Perpetual license never expires and can be used indefinitely. Although perpetual license comes with higher upfront cost, but over the years, a perpetual license actually offers lower total cost of ownership. The SOLIDWORKS license cost for the types of license differs.

There are two different SOLIDWORKS license management type available:
Types of SOLIWORKS License Management
1. Standalone License
SOLIDWORKS Standalone licenses are intended for an individual user of SOLIDWORKS or related product. It uses an activation process to enable your license to operate after installation.
Once the software is activated on a computer, it’s normally locked to the hard drive of your computer, remains permanently enabled until you choose to deactivate it.
2. Network License
SOLIDWORKS Network licenses (sometimes referred to as “floating” licenses), use an activation process only for the server, which monitors concurrent license usage.
It can combine multiple licenses into a single serial number. The individual clients running SOLIDWORKS retrieve a license each time the software is started, and return the license each time it is closed so that another user can use it.
This is ideal if you have several designers but they won’t all be using SOLIDWORKS at the same time, they can grab the license from the server pool anytime when they need it.
