What it offer is a free registration website where you can browse 3D CAD models of supplier components and use it in you design process. Again, it’s totally FREE! Don’t believe me?
Okay, pretending the website can talk and I’m chatting with him (it):
me: Hi, tell us more about 3d contentcentral.
3D: 3D ContentCentral® is a free service for locating, configuring, downloading, and requesting 3D parts and assemblies, 2D blocks, library features, and macros.
It consist of active community of 496,989 CAD users who share and download user contributed and supplier-certified 3D parts & assemblies, 2D blocks, library features and macros. Thereby saving you precious design time that you would otherwise spend designing 3D CAD models of supplier components from 2D catalogs.
me: you mean you have 3d and even 2d? I though it only have 3d parts?
3D: Yup! Not only 3d, free parts and assemblies are available in all major 2D and 3D CAD formats, including SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, and AutoCAD.
me: Interesting. Okay, i download a part then what should i do?
3D: alright, lets me explain the 5 simple steps: search, configure, view, download & use
Search for supplier components using part numbers, product names, descriptions, product parameters, and other application-specific criteria, or by simply browsing through an intuitive catalog interface.
Configure components based on specific requirements, such as dimensions, features, colors, and accessories.
View free 3D parts & assemblies of both user-contributed and supplier components, 2D blocks, Library Features and Macros. You can zoom, pan, and rotate the parts & assemblies.
Download free 2D blocks, library features and macros for SolidWorks. Download free 3D parts & assemblies in just seconds, in either native formats for several major mechanical CAD systems, including SolidWorks® 3D CAD software, CATIA®, Pro/ENGINEER®, eDrawings®, and AutoCAD®, or industry standard CAD formats for Autodesk Inventor™ Series, Solid Edge™, Unigraphics®, and other CAD systems.
Use the downloaded part by dragging the part into your 3D assembly.
me: oh, i see, that is easy! Beside that, can i publish my products into the website, as a supplier?
3D: yes, you’re welcome to do so. This is how you do it:
me: Do i have to turn on my internet browser everytime when I want to accesss to 3d contentcentral?
3D: No…you can access to 3d contentcentral through SolidWorks as well. While you are designing and you are looking for a supplier part, just go to your task pane>design library and you will found an icon for instant access to 3d contentcentral, is just that easy!
Believe it? Better believe it!
